petPeople who own pets have been identified to live longer and happier lives than those without pets. As we mature, we become less physically active. The more inactive we become the higher the risk of cardio vascular diseases. We, therefore, need pets in our lives to keep us active and busy, so we don’t get diseases too early and a pet will just do that thing. Let me share you Do’s and Don’ts in keeping a pet.

Must DO:

  • Take ample time in deciding what type of pet you like. The decision making part is really enjoyable.
  • Carefully consider what aspects of your life are going to change upon having a pet. You also need to think carefully your time, vigor, your place, and the need for a pet.
  • Identify what requirements you need to protect, feed, and care for your pet. This includes the cost of such a task.
  • Reflect on a variety of animals not just one. You may find something more proper for your lifestyle. Carefully study the animal you are trying to adopt.
  • Think ahead what is going to turn out to your pet as it grows and determines whether you are 100% committed in caring for this Pet after the ‘cute period’
  • Ask for advices from people who own or even breed the type of pet you are contemplating.
  • Thoroughly check a variety of sources to evaluate the prices before having the pet.
  • Check your local shelter organization to have a pet that really needs your help.
  • Choose a pet store or shelter that is knowledgeable about the particular pet you are interested in, a shelter or store that keeps pets healthy, clean and truly cares for their pets.
  • Check if the pet came from a breeder or from a shelter many miles away. To understand where the animal came from is crucial in understanding the later development and mood of the pet you are trying to care.
  • Check if they have accomplished health necessities, or whether it is needed, example for these arevaccinations.
  • Check exactly what the pet’s diet and daily activities and do the same routine during the transition period.

Upon bringing the pet at home they might feel a little upset so be patient and calm with your new pet.

  • Don’ts:
  • acquiring a pet on an impulse
  • acquiring a pet as a gift. Pets are not flowers to be handed that easy. Someone needs to go through the dos above.
  • Acquire a pet to improve the self-image. Pets have lives and feelings.
  • Say no for exotic pets
  • Careful when a sales person is forcing you to buy a specific pet.
  • Pay what is enough for this very important company.
  • Don’t invite the entire neighborhood to check out your new pet. Settle down for few days and when you can see that your pet feels safe and at home then you can invite few friends to come over and appreciate your pet.
  • Don’t hold and play too much with your pet for a couple of days. Do this when you feel your pet is starting to trust you.
  • Don’t hurt your pet. You know what I am talking about.
  • Don’t do anything that will endanger your pet’s trust in you.
  • Your Pet is not human. So expect less from your pet.

Don’t allow your friends to mock and abuse your pet. Never put your pet in a harm way.

What if you learn later that the pet you have is not compatible with your lifestyle? Well, accept that you committed a mistake and take responsibility for that mistake. Continue taking care of the pet until such time that you can find a good home for the pet. Try harder to find someone who is willing to take care of your pet. You can also contact and ask help from an animal shelter. Usually, you need to donate a certain amount this is your obligation for committing the said mistake. Remember to take the frustration to yourself and not to your pet.
